Projects - Upcoming for 2018 - WORLDWIDE
NEXGEN PROJECT - HAITI CHILDREN
NEXGEN PROJECT - CAMBODIA
Teaching the next generation of missionaries and church leader's children.
We feel for the many missionaries in countries around the world as well as local pastors and the expat community, that they want to have their children with them. Their education is of prime importance and is unique in that they have to adapt to a foreign culture as much as their parents. On the other hand, if the ministry couple are in their homeland, they too wish to provide a Christian environment in which their family can thrive. We all know too well, that the secular education systems are not always the best and, understandably, parents want an alternative to home schooling.
We wish to provide a fund from which to support those Christian teachers desirous of dedicating their skills into such an arena. We feel that Christian leaders and missionaries are worthy of such support.
We have a young lady who has a passion for children and has been teaching Year Two (UK) for the past three years in London. She is head of RE as well as the responsibility for Year Two. After visiting Cambodia twice and having the opportunity to see at first hand the need and opportunity to help, SARAH HICKMAN has made a commitment of 2 years to HOPE International Christian School, Phnom Penh. We are seeking to supplement her small salary and we salute Sarah on choosing this school above the more lucrative international schools.
HAITI HOUSE ROOFS - TINS!
The ongoing need in south western Haiti since Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 is still immense. There are villages in the mountainous regions that still have not had a replacement roof for their homes, even some still just a few sticks in place... a skeleton of what once was a bakery, a home. It almost seems that they have been forgotten. Pastor Jean Martin Etienne and a small team undertook the arduous journey to his birth village and was able to leave food, clothes and some money, but most of all the fact that they had made the trip was so precious to that community.
WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED THIS PROJECT - TO SEND MONEY FOR THE SUPPLY OF TINS - AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEND £1000 TO COMMENCE THE REBUILDING OF THEIR HOMES AND COMMUNITY.
OPPORTUNITY TO BE GENEROUS
SOPRA STERIA, an international digital transformation company, has as it's strap line "DELIVERING TRANSFORMATION. TOGETHER." This aligns with our philosophy as we seek partners, whether corporate or individual, to join us in making a difference to alleviate many aspects of suffering and deficiency in vulnerable environments. The children in Haiti and Zambia are glad they took the opportunity to be generous on their behalf.
We were delighted to be one of their chosen charities for 2016 and at a recent presentation, we gladly received their cheque for £857.33!
RUN TO THE HORIZON - 12IN12
FINAL RACE COMPLETED 2016!
The novel sounding, yet seasonal, end of year race for Matt - SANTA DASH - was a 5k road run in Uppermill, Saddleworth. It comprised mostly of hills rising up to a steep climb, then 'dashing' down the other side to the race finish at the local Methodist Church. It was a great fun event and a wonderful end to fabulous fundraising event. Thank you to all who supported Matt! We congratulate him on achieving his personal challenge as well as his commitment to raising funds for needy and vulnerable children.
The focus for this year was Luminary School, ZAMBIA and Loving Hearts Children's Home. HAITI: both have needs of food and clothing. We have been able to send some money to Haiti... they now have a good food supply and they were treated to a day at the beach! We think they are happy!!

RACE 8: ALDERMAN'S ASCENT - CONQUERED!
The evening race of 52 competitors took to the hills... again, it WAS raining!! Matt achieved this ascent in 1hour 20 mins 34 secs. He still did his trademark 'sprint' to the finishing line !! Great achievement!
Thank you to all who have donated so far ... we are doing very well ... keep up the good work!

RACE 3 - WHAT A FINISH!!
What perfect conditions for the race. Sun shining on a crisp morning 'called' people to come and watch, support and cheer on hundreds of competitors. Ready to go, the runners' adrenaline showed in the shaking of limbs!
Over The Hills Thirsty work this running business!! Matt replenishing much needed fluids after successfully completing Race Three of his planned twelve for 2016. A gruelling course of four hills, some a long climb, others short and steep, with deep ravine-like descents covered a distance of 10K (6.2m) elevation 261m/857ft. His time 56mins 2secs!! Meanwhile, we waited in the comfort of the cafe with cups of hot chocolate and coffee!
But what a finish... like a bullet whose trajectory was set for an explosive final burst!!
This race so captured the imagination, there was a significant push in our target amount. Many thanks to Matt's colleagues at SOPRA STERIA, Manchester who sponsored this particular race.

RACE 2 - IN THE BAG!
Another challenge undertaken - Matt's first NIGHT RUN - 7k was successfully completed. In pouring rain, wind and a difficult terrain trail to complete, over 300 hundred runners set off. The essential night torch strapped to the forehead they snaked their way, like a large monster, round the winding trail of Lyme Park, Disley. Soon out of sight, we anxiously waited for the front runners to appear... and then Matt at full steam ahead, finished on a strong 41mins 50secs. Through mud and slippery paths the challenge was at times just to be able to see through the driving rain. At one point, he had to remove his special running glasses as they were steaming up, and the cold air turning his breath into its own special fog right in front of his eyes; all made the going tough. Through pitch dark forests and bridle paths, he powered on to reach the tarmac road by the magnificent Lyme Hall Stately Home for the final descent... to the finish line!! Once again his rain soaked family were there to wave him off then cheer him on at the end!!
Matt successfully completed his first race challenge on January 3rd. What a way to commence the new year, a trail race. It was raining, very muddy and really only fit for a hippo! But waved off by his uncle and aunt and cheered on up the gruelling final hill, his rain-soaked parents were waiting!
